UV – Vis Spectrophotometer
The optical absorption by samples in the ultraviolet, visible and near infrared regions is measured with this instrument. Near lR spectroscopy is a valuable tool for analyzing aromatic compounds. Besides, this region finds wide acceptance in food and grain industries for the determination of protein, fat, moisture, sugar, etc.

The absorption, transmittance and reflectance in the visible range directly affect the perceived colour of the chemicals. Atoms and molecules of the samples undergo electronic transitions with the interaction of electromagnetic radiation in this region. Molecules containing n-electrons or nonbonding electrons (n-electrons) can absorb the energy in the form of ultraviolet or visible light and move to higher anti-bonding molecular orbitals through excitation. The more easily excited electrons (i.e. lower energy gap between the HOMO and the LUMO) absorb the longer the wavelength of light and thereby the spectrum is formed.
